Green Hyperscale Data Centres Sector
The Stoics – A Green Digital Network for Scotland
ILI Group is developing The Stoics — a landmark network of three hyperscale green data centres across Scotland’s Central Belt. Named after Stoic philosophers, the sites — Cato (Fife), Aurelius (North Lanarkshire), and Rufus (East Ayrshire) — form a Green Digital Corridor linking East, Central, and West Scotland.
The Stoics will stand among the largest hyperscale data centre clusters in the world, more than twice the size of many of today’s leading campuses. Each site has secured grid connection, land rights, and has entered the planning process, representing a major step toward positioning Scotland as a global hub for sustainable digital infrastructure.

Strength. Resilience. Endurance.
Reflecting the Stoic values they are named for, the projects embody:
- Strength – Delivering the digital backbone Scotland needs to power AI, cloud computing, and advanced connectivity.
- Resilience – Powered by Scotland’s abundant renewable energy, ensuring secure and sustainable infrastructure that can withstand global supply and energy challenges.
- Endurance – Built for the long term, creating lasting economic and environmental value for decades to come.

Clean Energy Integration
The Stoics are designed to operate on renewable power, ensuring clean, stable, and flexible electricity supply to support round-the-clock digital operations. This enables true Net Zero performance while supporting the UK’s broader decarbonisation goals.
Economic and Strategic Impact
- Tens of billions of pounds in private investment into Scotland’s economy
- Thousands of construction jobs at peak, plus long-term, high-value roles in operations and technology
- Major supply chain opportunities for Scottish businesses and service providers
- Reinforces Scotland’s position as a leader in the global green digital economy
By linking Fife, Lanarkshire, and Ayrshire, The Stoics create a new strategic digital hub for Scotland — designed to meet surging demand from AI and next-generation data services.
Sustainable by Design
Every Stoics data centre will exceed international benchmarks for energy efficiency, cooling innovation, and carbon performance. Key design features include:
- Advanced heat recovery systems to serve nearby communities or industrial users
- Circular construction principles using low-carbon materials
- On-site environmental enhancements including native woodland and wetland creation to deliver biodiversity net gain
A Vision for the Future
The Stoics represent more than a data centre cluster — they symbolise the union of ancient philosophy and modern innovation. By combining clean energy expertise with digital infrastructure, ILI Group is building the foundation for a sustainable, AI-ready Scotland that leads in both energy and technology.
